In the heart of Katanga, a vibrant yet under-resourced community, I embarked on a journey to build more than just a chess academy – I aimed to build a space of opportunity and empowerment. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering dedication of a remarkable team and the infectious enthusiasm of the children we serve.
Building a Team, Building a Dream:
The cornerstone of our academy is our stable team of chess coaches. We are fortunate to have a group of 8 individuals, a blend of 3 core members and 5 dedicated volunteers, who share a passion for the game and a commitment to the youth of Katanga. They are not just instructors; they are mentors, confidantes, and role models, fostering a positive and supportive environment for the children to learn and grow.
A Spark of Enthusiasm:
The energy in our academy is truly palpable. The children exude an eagerness to learn and a genuine love for the game. Witnessing their focused expressions as they strategize their next move and the joyful camaraderie they share with their coaches is truly heartwarming. It’s a testament to the incredible bond that has formed between our coaches and the children, a bond built on mutual respect, encouragement, and a shared passion for the game.
